A team has a limited time to get its shot away and reach the rim.
A fresh 24 seconds
A steal or defensive rebound gives the new offense 24 seconds. This example is earlier in the period, with more time on the game clock.
These examples use NBA Rule 7. Youth, college and international rules can differ.
